The Patio

The clients really wanted a space where they could be outside year-round—which, honestly, just makes sense out here. Sitting around a fire pit surrounded by the mountains... it’s kind of the quintessential alpine experience. We knew that had to be a focal point.

When it came to seating, they mentioned loving the classic shape of Adirondack chairs, but we wanted to modernize it—something that felt substantial but still sleek. We ended up designing custom chairs with wide armrests, which just felt right for the space. I mean, there’s nothing better than having a place to set your drink while you’re relaxing by the fire. Little details like that can make a big difference.

Material-wise, durability was a big factor, but it also had to look good and tie into the rest of the house. We wanted something that would age well and not feel out of place against the landscape. The result is this space that feels inviting and unfussy—you can come out here after a day on the slopes, warm up by the fire, or just sit back and take in the view.

I really like how it turned out—it feels like an extension of the indoors, but with that fresh mountain air and open sky overhead. To me, that’s what outdoor living should be about—comfort, functionality, and that little bit of magic that comes from being surrounded by nature.
