The whole idea behind this room was to capture that feeling of being outdoors but with the comfort of being inside—something the clients could use year-round. The success of this lies in how we used the exterior cladding material on the inside of the room—the wood paneling and the stone under the windows matches the rest of the house. To me, that’s what really blurs the line between indoors and outdoors. You get the warmth of the interior furnishings but still feel rooted in the landscape.
Despite the rooms grand size – it still has cozy pockets where you can settle in. We established three distinct spaces - the cozy fireplace nook, a dining space, and another family room hanging out space. Repeating the same sectional in both seating areas keeps everything feeling connected, which was important given how big this space is.
The versatility in space planning allows the pavilion to shift throughout the day. In the morning, you can have coffee out here and feel like you’re part of the scenery. By evening, the fireplace is going with people gathered round. The design always kept this in mind - to create a spot where you can eat, relax, chat, or just sit and enjoy the natural landscape.
