Modern Oasis

Tucked inside El Dorado Country Club in Indian Wells, this William Cody-designed home had a wonderful midcentury character that we wanted to preserve. The idea was never to create a period-perfect interior, but to build on the original architecture while making the house feel warmer, more layered, and personal to the clients.

We began with the kitchen and bathrooms, introducing richer finishes and materials throughout. From there, we looked to the furnishings to soften the  strong architectural lines. Sculptural pieces, gentle curves, and tactile textures bring a different kind of movement to the rooms while allowing the original architecture to remain very much a part of the experience.

The clients also had an incredible collection of contemporary art, which became an important part of the design. Working alongside art consultant Putter Pence, we considered how the furnishings and materials could complement their collection without competing with it.

What emerged is a more relaxed and contemporary take on California desert living, with all the character of Cody’s original design still very much intact.
